International Health Organization

(IHO)

The International Health Organization (IHO), a medical student-run organization at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, was conceived to increase student interest in international health
and to improve access to information on international electives. IHO organizes periodic lectures on topics in global medicine and hosts a fall slide show by second year students who spent their summers abroad and a spring slide show by fourth year students who are returning from international electives. In addition, the IHO is affiliated with the New York Presbyterian branch of REMEDY, another student-run organization which recovers equipment and supplies destined for the hospital garbage which are tremendously useful in other countries.

IHO members are also currently working with the administration at P&S to develop a formal institute for international health at the Columbia University Medical Center. IHO also works with the Deans Office to provide scholarships to students who wish to travel abroad for international research and service during their the summer between their first and second years of medical school.

We are always looking for new opportunities to work with other medical schools, non-profits, or other programs. Please contact our current co-chairs for more information.
