American Association of Neurological Surgeons

Columbia's student chapter of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons was founded by medical students Scott Widemon, Trae Robison, Blake Taylor, and Stephen Bowden.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons has a long history of fostering interest in neurosurgery among medical students. The purpose of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is to advance the study and continual improvement of neurological surgery for the highest quality patient care.

Columbia's medical student chapter of AANS promotes neurosurgery to medical students and encourages networking and building support among medical students, residents, and faculty members. Plans are in the works for teaching sessions about neurosurgery and advice on research and residency opportunities.
